Framis was founded by Luciano Salotto in 1978. The company mission was to promote the use of a stretchable transparent extruded polyurethane tape, (Framilon®) that for the first time would make it possible to develop garments using ultra flat, invisible elastication.
In 1997, a production plant was opened in Gaggiano (Milan) to manufacture Tektape® polyurethane tapes, for the waterproof sealing of seams.
Just two years later, Framis implemented and financed a new project, leading to the development of the first electronically operated heat-sealing machine - the SE2000E. The aim was to provide the market with heat-welding tapes together with the machinery with which to apply them.
In the same year polyurethane Tekfilm™ was first produced, available in transparent and coloured versions and used to add technical effects when applied to fabrics ranging from leather goods to garments and labels.
Framis also introduced a new accessory during this period: La Bretella®, the transparent strap, which became an irreplaceable component in many prestigious international fashion collections.
In 2000, subsequent to experience gained in the underwear sector, Framis developed Piumatek® customising technology.
The Piumatek® concept transformed fashion, making the development of ultra flat garments, raw edge cutting and unstructured styles possible. With the successive introduction of the Piumatek® Accessories line, clients are now able to customise Framis accessories with their own materials.
Piumatek® was just the first step in the quest for new technological solutions in the world of fashion.
By exploiting its chemical-textile, mechanical and application know-how, Framis designed a new garment production system, known as NoSo™, which has become an alternative to traditional sewing technology.
Instead of classic sewing machines, NoSo™ uses heat welders and heat-weldable tapes to assemble and decorate garments. With the passage of time, the NoSo™ system has become increasingly rich and innovative, thanks to the broadening range of machines, from the 500 to the 3000 series, and research into higher performance and more specific tapes for diverse types of application, from leg openings for lingerie to tape for putting together stonewashed jeans.
